Fake note is now a great curse for the national economy of every country in the world. To get rid of this curse millions of dollars are being spent for newer techniques and measures. In Bangladesh also various steps have been taken including incorporation of global standard security features in bank notes. But like other countries in Bangladesh also desired output is not forthcoming. The issue has been elaborately discussed in various currency conferences and now the experts are of the view that if the common people are made aware of the public features (Overt features) of the banknotes and the cash handling officials of Banks & money handling agencies made duly conversant of the covert features of bank notes, the curse of fake notes will come down to a tolerable state. It gives me immense pleasure to learn that International Institute of Currency Technology is organizing a day long public awareness seminar jointly with Bangladesh Bank on Fake Note Detection and Prevention which is open to officials from Banks, Money handling agencies, Law enforcing agencies and common users of banknotes. The seminar contents include all relevant aspects of note printing and fake note detection mechanism. Participation of a few world renowned currency technologists in the seminar as speaker will certainly add to the effectiveness of the seminar. I am convinced that holding of such seminar will go a long way to eradicating the curse of Fake Note from circulation.I wish every success of the seminar.
M A Mannan MPBanknotes are counterfeited all over the world irrespective of financial strength of a country. Bangladesh is no exception. In Bangladesh the law enforcing agencies are duly alert and they have so far detected many sources of counterfeiting of notes and caught red handed the counterfeiters. But it appears that new sources are being created and the counterfeiters are continuing their misdeeds. Actually this is an endless task. From our experience what we feel most necessary is that, the users of the banknotes have to be duly aware and conversant about the nature of counterfeit and at least the overt security features of notes. Now it is my pleasure to see that just with this aim and objective Bangladesh Bank has organized jointly with International Institute of Currency Technology a “Public Awareness Seminar on Fake Note Detection and Prevention”. I believe this praiseworthy initiative will be fruitful to a large extent. I wish full success of the seminar.
Dr. Md. Mozammel Haque KhanI am very glad to know that Bangladesh Bank and International Institute of Currency Technology (IICT) are jointly organizing a daylong “Public Awareness Seminar on Fake Note Detection and Prevention”. In fact, holding of an open public awareness seminar on fake note detection and prevention is a new concept in Bangladesh. The law enforcing agencies have been doing their best to prevent counterfeiting of bank notes and their circulation. Despite all our sincere efforts counterfeiting of bank notes could not be completely checked. This is due, to a great extent, to the lack of awareness about the features and characteristics of genuine banknotes on the part of the general mass. This lack of awareness helps the counterfeiters to push their products in circulation and get away without much trouble which encourages further spread of the crime. In this perspective holding of a public awareness programme on counterfeit bank notes is a praiseworthy initiative which is sure to yield a very much effective result. I wish the programme optimum success.
Hassan Mahmood Khandker BPM, PPM, ndcI am delighted to know that a seminar on ``Public Awareness on Fake Note Detection and Prevention`` organized jointly by Bangladesh Bank and International Institute of Currency Technology is going to be held on August 23, 2014. The seminar is a unique one in the sense that no such event ever took place in Bangladesh in the past. It is particularly designed to address the challenges of forgery and counterfeiting of notes. Experts from home and abroad will express their views on currency technology in general and suggest ways and means in particular to remove fake notes from the market which is the crying need of the day. The seminar will enhance knowledge and skill of the participants to identify whether a note is genuine or fake. Frankly speaking, despite the steps taken by the Government and the Bangladesh Bank, counterfeiting of notes could not be fully prevented. I therefore hope that this sort of extra maneuvering for raising public awareness on fake notes will bring in fruitful results. One such seminar may not be enough. It is felt that more such seminars be should organized. I wish the seminar a total success.
Md. Abul QuasemFor detection and prevention of fake notes circulation, the concerned authorities are required to wage a full-fledged war against fake notes and their counterfeiters. One way to do it is to raise the public awareness. Another measure is to make the cash handling officials of the banks well conversant about the characteristics of fake notes. In the recent past, BIBM also organized a few seminars in these regards, at different regional offices of Bangladesh Bank, which appeared to be fruitful. Now holding of an International Seminar on Public Awareness for Detection and Prevention of Fake Notes with the participation of bankers covering the entire country is undoubtedly an encouraging, bold and unique step. We believe that the seminar will contribute in a large way to achieve Bangladesh Bank goal of preventing fake notes by means of incorporating global standard high tech security features in the banknotes. For better interest of the common people and the economy of the country, I wish all success of the seminar.
Dr. Toufic Ahmad ChoudhuryTransaction of Fake Notes is a cause of much harassment for the cash handling officials as well as a threat to the smooth banking. Apparently many steps are being taken by Bangladesh Bank and the law enforcing agencies to get rid of this unpleasant situation. But nothing is ensuring a quite safe atmosphere in the banking sector. Now it is our great pleasure to know that Bangladesh Bank has seriously taken this issue into consideration and in collaboration with International Institute of Currency Technology are organizing a ‘Public Awareness Seminar on Fake Note Detection and Prevention’ which is expected to make the participants capable to identify fake notes instantly. This measure is likely to give a very much effective output. For the sake of a safe and secured banking atmosphere I wish every success of the seminar.
Nazrul Islam MazumderThe monetary history of the world is so heavily flooded with accounts of counterfeit currency invading the markets from time to time, that the production of fake money seems as old as money itself. The presence and use of counterfeit money in the market can affect the national and global economy in a considerable way. For one, as counterfeit money makes its way into the markets, suddenly there is more money in circulation than there should be, which turn leads to the rise in price and therefore devaluation of currency and inflation. The shortage of supply that is created in the market due to extensive circulation of forged currency, gives rise to another grave problem, that of black marketing. The worst of all, counterfeit money deceives people and they tend to lose confidence in their money and the nation’s economy. Today, there are several counterfeiters of currency, functioning from every nook and corner of the world, waiting to circulate false notes in the mainstream monetary system. Government and security agencies are taking measures to put a heed to this. But, that is not enough. I personally feel that public awareness is the most important and effective tool to curb production and circulation of fake notes. I am particularly delighted to know that Bangladesh Bank jointly with International Institute of Currency Technology hosting a global seminar on ‘Fake Note Detection and Prevention’ which for the first time bringing together around four thousand bank official, member of law enforcing agencies, world renowned experts on the field, members from International Association of Currency Affairs, Governors of around 20 central banks to their heads together to find ways and means to combat the menace. The seminar will provide a good platform to all the stakeholders in the currency circulation network and also give them the opportunity to learn from each other. I wish every success to this timely initiative.
